In the midst of the chaos and turmoil created by the landfall of Hurricane Irma in Florida, JetBlue Crewmembers were faced with even more uncertainty than most.
JetBlue Crewmembers were forced to make a grim decision: should they jeopardize their vehicles and other personal belongings in the storm? Or, should they jeopardize their jobs by evacuating to safer ground?
A job is a lot more than a paycheck.
Protecting someone' job means protecting their ability to provide for a family. It means protecting things like Christmas presents, birthday parties and first movie dates. Our jobs allow us to live a comfortable life, and to hold a respected position within our communities.
It's not just about money. It's about dignity.
IAM141 Shop Stewards, AGCs and District Officers have, as of July 2017, returned more than 100 airline workers to their jobs. These were women and men who had been fired unfairly, illegally or outside the rules of the contracts that their employers had agreed to.
Thanks to the hard work and stubbornness of IAM141 activists and elected representatives, these people have been returned to work. In many cases, they are returning with back pay.
For the families that have experienced the shock of unexpected job loss, their union sisters and brothers have given them a priceless chance to be made whole again.
Even before JetBlue Crewmembers are protected by a contract, there are many ways to make a difference. Right now, there are Crewmembers that need help understanding their rights under FMLA, Workers' Comp and Workplace Safety. You can help ensure that JetBlue maintains a well-educated, engaged and active community.
