A-Cards, also called "Authorization Cards" are very important. If enough employees in a company sign A-Cards, the Federal Government will know that there is real support for a union.
Once they see that enough employees want a union, they will set up an election for that workgroup. This election will determine whether or not the workers will win union representation.
This is why organizing a group of employees into a union will always include signing A-Cards.
A-Cards are the only way to prove to the Federal Government that the employees want to form or join a union and negotiate wages, job security and work rules as a group.
If you want to have a real say in determining workplace policies that are critical to you, such as wages, sick time, and job security... you will need to sign an A-Card once a year until your workplace is recognized as a group of union members.
